OLA Macau: Macau has TASTE!

Visiting Macau from HK offers, not only an A1 side trip, but a gastronomic experience as well!

Macau is divided into three main sections: Macau Island (Ilha de Macau in the map), Taipa Island (Ilha da Taipa) & Coloane Island (Ilha de Coloane). Each island has specialties to offer a tourist!

Coloane Island

From Macau Island, ride the bus going to Coloane Island where the original Lord Stow Bakery selling egg tarts are.  The ride may take around 30 minutes. The bakery is a very modest shop in Coloane Town Square, quite the size and look of your typical neighborhood bakery.

The original bakery, located in a sleepy town in Coloane Is.

We wanted to taste the freshly baked egg tarts from where it all started.  And it was worth the trip - there is nothing like the original! The taste? Exhilarating nom... nom... nom!
Perfect egg tarts
Hmmmm...nothing like the original... eaten right outside the bakery!

Taipa Island
Rua do Cunha
A Food-lover's Haven, Rua do Cunha, is a narrow pedestrian street in the town center of Taipa, lined by shops selling almond cakes, koi-kei, peanut candy, egg rolls, dried beef, etc.  One can satisfy his craving or hunger just by sampling the food for sale...there is no limit on the food tasting...eat all you can!  In Macau Island, a street just like this can be found on the way up to St. Paul Ruins!

Within the area are restaurants, like the Dumbo restaurant, serving Portuguese food, at very reasonable price. One can have a full sumptuous meal at USD15-20 per person.

Lunch fare with crabs, grilled chops, shrimps, fish balls, salmon with wine to finish off the meal! Perfect!
What's a meal without the mouth-watering dessert?
Of course, you don't go to Macau without tasting the local fare - noodles with dumplings - what an empty stomach needs!

Macau Island
Fisherman's Wharf is a themed wharf with three major themes: Tang Dynasty Wharf, East meets West Wharf and Legend Wharf.  Here, seafood restaurants are a bit pricey but food is really good!  We arrived here a bit late and so we were quite hungry and forgot to take good pictures of the food before we started devouring it!

flat noodles, crabs (again!), fish fillet and shrimps!

How much does an average meal in Macau cost?
Very affordable! Local restaurants, open as early to serve breakfast until dinner, have meals ranging from as low as USD5 to as high as you can afford.  Chinese, Portuguese or Chinese-Portuguese meals are most common and are really tasty.

Treat your tummy to a feast!
